Find and Remove Duplicate Activities
When you upload a bulk export or re-upload a file you’ve already imported, FitKeep automatically skips exact duplicates. But sometimes two files represent the same workout without being identical byte-for-byte — for example, a Garmin sync and a manual upload of the same activity. The duplicates tool helps you find and clean those up.
How duplicates are detected
FitKeep groups activities that started at the same time. Each group shows the metric differences between the copies — distance, duration, pace, heart rate, and elevation — so you can see whether they really are the same effort and which copy has better data.
Find and remove duplicates
- Open Settings → Data
- Select Find duplicates
- FitKeep shows groups of activities with matching start times
- Review each group — expand it to compare the metrics and filenames
- Delete the copy you don’t want to keep
If no duplicates are found, the page says so and there’s nothing to do.
Which copy should I keep?
There’s no universal rule, but a few things to look for:
- More complete metrics: If one copy has heart rate data and the other doesn’t, keep the one with heart rate.
- Source: A file synced directly from your device is often more reliable than one re-exported from a platform.
- Filename: The original filename from your device is sometimes a useful hint.
Is it safe to re-upload?
Yes. When you upload a ZIP export or a folder of FIT files, FitKeep skips any file that is byte-for-byte identical to one already in your account. The duplicates tool is only needed for activities that slipped through because they came from two different sources.
